Specialized Knowledge Works For Wages, Ideas Create Fortunes

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

Many a good idea – I see it daily – is capable of yielding an income far greater than that of the “average” doctor, lawyer, or engineer whose education required several years in college.

Good money can be made in certain positions, especially in sales, but, overall, our research bears out what J. Paul Getty says in his book, How To Be Rich, that, in order to get really rich, you MUST have your own business.

In short, you must be an employer, not an employee. An originator, not a clerk.

Ideas Don’t Tip The Merchant’s Scales

Ideas cannot be compared and measured in the commodity market, for the very reason they are worth what the value, timing, vision, drive, and sustained effort of the originator or marketer of the idea invests it with!

This is good… Very GOOD. There is no fixed price for sound IDEAS!

To bring all IDEAS to fruit requires specialized knowledge. But specialized knowledge is not the secret. Unfortunate for those who swallow the hoax and specialize in specialized knowledge, fortunate for those with the imagination to gear it toward specific ends, specialized knowledge is more abundant and more easily acquired than IDEAS.

“Rise!”

Because of this very truth, there is a universal demand and an ever-increasing opportunity for the person who understands and applies these principles. Capability means you’ve got IMAGINATION, the one quality needed to combine specialized knowledge with IDEAS, in the form of ORGANIZED PLANS designed to yield riches.

If you have IMAGINATION this chapter may present you with an impulse or idea sufficient to serve as the beginning of the riches you desire. Or quantum leap you up a few levels if you’re already in motion.

Always…

The IDEA is the main thing.

Specialized knowledge may be found just around the corner - any corner! At the local Internet café in any country of the world…

[From the upcoming publication of the updated Think And Grow Rich, scheduled out 2 October 2006.]

Napoleon Hill should never be mistaken in his Think And Grow Rich chapter on "Specialized Knowledge".

His first paragraph defines education, slams it, gives the negative example of university professors, and points to the problem...

"There are two kinds of knowledge. One is general, the other is specialized. General knowledge, no matter how great in quantity or variety it may be, is of but little use in the accumulation of money. The faculties of the great universities possess, in the aggregate, practically every form of general knowledge known to civilization. Most of the professors have but little or no money. They specialize in teaching knowledge, but they do not specialize in the organization, or the use of knowledge."

A lot in a few words!

For now we'll forget the scathing indictment of the institutionalized education system, and suggest that in discovering where the problem lies, we encounter the ability to fix it - to test, tweak, and apply the secret that can give us the income we desire...

It is not the quantity or even the type of specialized knowledge that gears into the power to accomplish your definite chief aim in life, your goals, dreams, and ambitions, but how you use what is readily available to you.
It's like playing poker. The uninitiated falsely believe the person with the best hand wins, when nothing could be farther from the truth.

Here’s a few words from my upcoming NEW Think And Grow Rich, on the place of knowledge in the acquisition of spectacular sums of money…

“KNOWLEDGE will not attract money, unless it is organized and intelligently directed, through practical PLANS OF ACTION to the DEFINITE END of accumulation of money. Lack of understanding of this fact has been the source of confusion to millions of people who falsely believe that “knowledge is power.” It is nothing of the sort! Knowledge is only potential power. It becomes power only when and if it is geared into definite plans of action, directed to a definite end.”

What a put down and apparent contradiction from what most people imagine Napoleon Hill has to say about knowledge. Most think he’s praising it, like you’d suppose any good educator would. And any good “system” educator would…

A maverick, on the other hand…

He tosses it off with nary a notice, citing 2 immensely rich and benevolent men who began with no money, no connections, and no education: Henry Ford with 6 years of schooling, Thomas Edison with 3 months in the classroom…

Though you can discover what it IS inside the book… Education, knowledge, specialized knowledge clearly is NOT the secret in this proven and acclaimed wealth philosophy.

KNOWLEDGE is NOT the power.

You may find the original statement in the 1937 republish, page 57 in the official blog text, paragraph 1, beginning "The reason that man may..."

In Ted Ciuba's updated version of Think And Grow Rich it is written...

"Any human may become master of himself or herself, and of their environment, because he or she has the POWER TO INFLUENCE THEIR OWN SUBCONSCIOUS MIND, and through it, gain the cooperation of Infinite Intelligence."

Look at this! The HUGE power humanity has is the power to influence their own subconscious mind!

Then, the process goes... The subconscious communicates with Infinite Intelligence, who, quite naturally, as she always does, recompenses back with the level of thoughts transmitted from a person's subconscious.

This puts the control of our quest to riches 1) down to the iniative of another party or power, and 2) makes the process of getting rich a tad passive, as it works indirectly by "influence".

However, Infinite Intelligence, the other party, is quite capable, benevolent and trustworthy, and, if the approach to the results you want in your life is through the subconscious, that is the approach you take.

None other.

Would a mountain climber who scales precipitous rises of rock suggest you do the same without good equipment? In the same way, I'll never sweetcake what's required for you in the climb to riches.

But then, what fan of either sport would have it any other way?

Another idea: the way you influence the subconscious is through auto-suggestion, specifically in the form of affirmations.

It makes the science of affirmations mighty important... Which we'll talk about another time.
